January "We're All Ears" Challenge

This is my first time trying this challenge so I hope you'll be gentle with me! I have been following this blog forever and really enjoy seeing what everybody has created. This month we were challenged with the Pantone 2015 Spring Color Palette. I specifically chose Marsala the colour of the year since I've been working with my polymer clay mixing in an attempt to make some in the correct colour. Of course now I have tons of clay which is in varying shades of red and brown!!

Here my earrings made with polymer clay discs in marsala combined with grey metallic hematite  rectangular seed beads and a silver leaf jasper bead . They are all wire wrapped with blackened brass wire from Fallen Angel Brass and hung on matte black earwires from the same place.

I like how these turned out but I'm not  sure whether I should do any more surface treatment to the polymer clay discs. I'm not a big fan of bling but I'm wondering if these are too dull???

  1. Oh, I LOVE these. So simple and elegant. I would wear these to work, I would wear them with blue jeans.

Can't wait to see what you post next time!

  2. I don't think they are dull. They look great. I prefer simple clean lines.

  3. These are perfect just the way they are. There is a quiet sophistication to these earrings and the marsala colour you mixed is perfect. I find that the grooves (is that the right word?) you added to the discs gives just the right texture and interest. They add shading and highlights. Perfect.

You'll have lots of fun coming up with ideas for all those shades of browns and reds.

  4. no bling - these are perfect. Marsala is a color that looks great with both textures and shine but in this case texture is so much better

  9. I really like your polymer clay beads! The organic structure is just great! Since you asked: I would actually have added some colour to enhance the structure. But not bling but a darker shade of acrylic colour (or brown or grey) to antique the deep lines so that the structure is enhanced :) So the total opposite of more bling: even more organic ;)

  11. Welcome! So glad you joined us this month. You mixed the perfect shade of marsala. I am so impressed with that. Now that you have all of this extra clay, you can play with more projects during this marsala year. I am absolutely intrigued by the texture of these beads. Please join us again next month!

  14. Great earrings! I think they look like Chinese paper lanterns! I Think that I would do a little bit of antiquing to the marsala donuts. Find a nice rich brown acrylic paint, daub it into the crevices and immediately wipe off the excess. Then just hit the tops lightly with your finger dipped in a sheer metallic. That would give them depth. Thanks for joining in the We're All Ears challenge for January. Check back on February 6th for the next inspiration! Enjoy the day. Erin
